There’s been some good news for Galway Technology Centre (GTC) with our Scaling Our Legacy event receiving an honour from Chambers Ireland.
Galway Chamber, with Galway Technology Centre, won in the ‘Support Enterprise and Social Enterprise’ category during the Chambers Ireland Awards in Dublin.
The prize recognised the success of the Scaling Our Legacy event which was held in April 2021. Scaling Our Legacy sought to capture the roots and impact of GTC. It drew on the birth of the centre following the closure of Digital Equipment Corporation’s Galway facility in 1994 – who at the time were the largest employers in Galway.
That major disappointment resulted in the creation of GTC – the first technology innovation centre in Ireland.
During Scaling Our Legacy, GTC and Galway Chamber were able to highlight the many different successes of the centre. We were able to recognise the companies both past and present who have called GTC home, including companies like Storm Technology, Blue Tree Systems, Siren, PlanNet 21, 9th Impact, Ex Ordo, Action Point, Electronic Arts (EA), SAP and many, many more.
It was also fantastic to be able to feature contributions from a range of dignitaries such as Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Leo Varadkar TD and Minister Hildegarde Naughton, as well as many of the other members and individuals who have made GTC what it is today.
We were also able to use Scaling Our Legacy as a platform to announce the future plans for the centre, especially our major expansion project – news that was covered by RTE, Irish Times, Irish Independent and all the major national and local news outlets.
Scaling Our Legacy was a labour of love for all those in GTC and we couldn’t have done it without the significant support of our members, stakeholders and especially WestBIC and Galway Chamber. A special thanks as well to Cogency who were heavily involved in the organisation and promotion of the event.
We are delighted to have received this award in conjunction with Galway Chamber. It is an honour we share with all our members both past, present and future. It is they who are the true keepers of the founding spirit behind GTC and who we hope will continue to make their own remarkable legacies.
