Reflection: GTC Company Events; Flynn O’Driscoll Business Lawyers, GDPR and Brexit, and Med-Di-Dia Launch

We hosted two events that brought GTC companies to the forefront. First off, we had one of our newer companies, Med-Di-Dia, host their official launch. This was followed up a few days later by Flynn O’Driscoll Business Lawyers presenting on the state of GDPR and the possible implications of a No Deal Brexit.

For the First event we see our newly joined member, Med-Di-Dia, conduct their official company launch here at GTC. This was attended by many representatives in the medical technology community here in Galway, as well as the current Lord Mayor of Galway, Mike Cubbard.

Med-Di-Dia is a regulatory affairs and quality compliance consultancy focusing on the Medical, Digital Health and Diagnostic sectors of the European Life Science Industry.

Later in the week we hosted FOD Business Lawyers, another company based here in GTC, as they presented ‘GDPR – Where we are now and What a No-Deal Brexit means for your Business’. We were advised of the importance of the Data Protection Officer and their role within a company. We also heard that one of the number one challenges to overcome when it comes to data protection is human error, so it it important to have the processes in place to train and make aware staff of any pitfalls to be aware of when it comes to data protection. Along this line, having a regular audit of your data protection procedures is vital.

Finally, we were given information to help companies navigate the challenges of a No-deal Brexit. As with many Brexit scenarios, this is based on speculation and subject to changes as the Brexit story unfolds. The key here is to link in with advisers like FOD to keep up-to-date with regards to the mandatory steps that Irish business need to take.
